Nicole Kidman, the Autopsy Expert?! She’s Picked Up Quite a Few Tricks for a New Thriller…

MOVIE NEWS – Nicole Kidman claims she’s “learning all about autopsies” for a new Prime Video thriller series…

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nicole Kidman — who is arguably the busiest actress in Hollywood right now — gave a brief update on one of her upcoming projects: the Prime Video series Scarpetta. The series is based on Patricia Cornwell’s novels and will star the titular character, medical examiner Kay Scarpetta. Kidman is currently researching the role, saying, “I’m learning all about autopsies… I know where all the body parts are.”

The series, which Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis produce, was first announced in February 2023. Curtis will play Scarpetta’s sister, Dorothy, who is a recurring and integral character in the novels. The series will also star Oscar winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story), Bobby Cannavale (Ant-Man, MaXXXine), his son Jake Cannavale (Nurse Jackie), Simon Baker (The Mentalist, The Devil Wears Prada) and Rosy McEwan (Apartment 7A).

Liz Sarnoff, known for Lost and Barry, is the writer, executive producer and showrunner. In addition to Curtis and Kidman, the series will be produced by Blumhouse Television and David Gordon Green, who will also direct the first two episodes. This will reunite Green and Curtis, who starred in the director’s Halloween trilogy.

Kidman said of the series:

“I’ve been pursuing Scarpetta for nearly twenty years going back to when it was intended to be a feature, so to unite with the formidable Jamie Lee Curtis, Prime Video, Jason Blum, and David Gordon Green on the Liz Sarnoff series version of Patricia Cornwell’s epic and thrilling books feels like it was meant to be. I cannot wait to inhabit Kay Scarpetta and am so thankful to Patricia Cornwell for entrusting me with her.”

Amazon has so far ordered two seasons and sixteen episodes of Scarpetta. A release date has not been announced at the time of writing.
