The franchise is now owned by Microsoft, so the Redmond company may decide to add more than just the latest installments to the subscription service.
Several Call of Duty episodes that weren’t previously on the company’s store have popped up on the Microsoft Store for PC. Call of Duty, Call of Duty 2, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, and Call of Duty: United Offensive have all appeared on the platform, and for a simple reason. Microsoft is trying to bolster its Xbox Game Pass lineup with these games. A gaming industry insider, Knoebel, pointed out on Twitter that four early installments of Activision’s annual franchise have also appeared.

In the past, we’ve seen older PC titles first appear on the Microsoft Store and then become part of the Xbox Game Pass offering. Two of those titles are now available on the Xbox Series via backwards compatibility, with Call of Duty 2 and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare also running on Microsoft’s latest pair of consoles. Call of Duty: United Offensive hasn’t been released for consoles, so it’s a waste of time to look for it there. (And Call of Duty 3, released in 2006, skipped the PC back in the day.)
The latest installment in the franchise, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, was released on October 25 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and Microsoft also made it available on Xbox Game Pass on launch day (a condition Microsoft had to meet in order to acquire Activision Blizzard King), and even the company’s CEO, Satya Nadella, has commented on how well the latest installment of what can be called a mainstream franchise has performed from the start.
Microsoft may be saving an official announcement about the expansion of its older Call of Duty titles for The Game Awards.
