While he may know some of the background, even he stressed that this is highly speculative.
In seven tweets on Twitter, Dusk Golem explained what he thinks the fate of Resident Evil will be in the next few years. He also talked about the new movie, the next remake and Resident Evil 9: “So here’s some educated speculation, but it IS speculation, on how I personally think Resident Evil stuff is going to go down in the next few years. So Screen Gems/Constantin Films have a contract that says in order to keep the rights to the Resident Evil brand for making movies, they have to release a new Resident Evil movie every five fiscal years. So the new Resident Evil movie directed by Zach Cregger, which is about to start shooting, basically has to be released before fiscal year 2026 is over, since Welcome to Raccoon City was released in 2021. It’s been heavily rumored/leaked that this movie is an adaptation of Resident Evil Zero, starring Rebecca and Billy,” Dusk Golem said.
He also mentioned the Nintendo Switch 2: “The Switch’s successor is also on the verge of being revealed, likely to be released this year. I think it’s highly likely that Capcom will strike a marketing deal with Nintendo for their big reimagining of Resident Evil Zero, it should be a good entry point to the franchise, the “beginning of the story”, and a big name AAA game to release in the launch year of the Switch successor. However, I think Resident Evil Zero Remake will be released on everything, either all at once or eventually. I think there’s no better time to release Resident Evil Zero Remake than now; they can tie it to the series’ 30th anniversary as the “Beginning of the Saga,” tie it to the live-action movie that needs to be released, and be a major new AAA release on the Switch successor in its launch year,” Dusk Golem added.

And what about Resident Evil 9? “However, Resident Evil 9 is also on the horizon and I think Capcom wants to release it in 2026. This is entirely up to Capcom, but I can see them possibly doing a 30th anniversary celebration with Resident Evil 9 and Resident Evil Zero Remake, the “Beginning & Ending of the Saga” for this era of Resident Evil, a theme of beginnings and endings, probably the live action Constantin film, and I wouldn’t be surprised if a CG movie tied to Resident Evil 9 also comes into it, and this function as a sort of 30th anniversary celebration to the series,” the insider wrote.
None of this is official!
