Despite two delays for the new Assassin’s Creed, we’re already hearing about the first DLC for the French publisher’s next big release…
We also reported that Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on March 20th instead of February 14th, so that the feedback from players can be incorporated into the game set in feudal Japan. The reasoning is a bit strange, but nevertheless, Ubisoft’s situation is not very good and in the meantime, while costs are being cut, there is a chance that Tencent, one of the Chinese tech giants, will buy out the other shareholders and delist Ubisoft.
But in the meantime, we’ve already got some information about the first DLC, as Claws of Awaji has appeared on the Steam page for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. When a game is more than two months away from release and DLCs are already being planned, it can be seen as a money-grabbing move (regardless of the publisher’s financial situation), as it sounds like they’re carving it out of the base game in order to sell the extra content separately at a premium. This is similar to what Capcom did a decade ago when their games had DLC on the disc editions and you still had to pay to get it.
You can get Claws of Awaji by pre-ordering the game, and you get an extra mission. You can go to a new region, get more than ten hours of extra content, get a new type of weapon, and get new skills, equipment, and abilities. Presumably this extra story is set on the island of Awaji and is only available to pre-orderers, although it looks like Ubisoft might be able to offer Claws of Awaji with a season pass or perhaps by purchasing a more expensive edition. The Steam description has since disappeared, so it could be that the French publisher is trying to rewrite everything.
Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be released on March 20th for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC (Steam, Epic Games Store, Ubisoft Store), Mac (App Store) and Amazon Luna.
