TECH NEWS – Once again, Nvidia’s top-of-the-line card is being sold at a ridiculously high price by scalpers, in what looks like a repeat of what we saw four years ago…
Especially with the RTX 3000 series (but also with the RTX 4000 series) we saw that products were released, sold out within a short period, and then the cards were resold by scalpers at a much higher price than the original price. This is what happened with the latest Blackwell architecture, so for the third time after Ampere and Ada Lovelace, the initial stock was snapped up by the rich players who really just wanted to buy ONE card to finally upgrade their rig…
Around the release of new graphics cards, it is common for pre-orders to be booked to make some money because the FOMO situation is so important. Fear of missing out can lead to people spending a lot of money just to get their hands on the latest product. And this is happening now, as the pre-launch “campaign” is already in full swing on eBay, and it’s fair to say that the prices are absurd!
An Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition, for example, is available for two and a half times the original price, so the price is $5,000 instead of $5,000, but the Asus RTX 5090 ROG Astral OC card goes even further, as the price from the scalper is $7,000, which is three times the recommended retail price. Of course, the pictures are all press and product shots, not custom shots, since the scalpers couldn’t have gotten their hands on the cards yet.
We have the feeling that Nvidia is deliberately holding back the initial stock to push up the recommended retail price of their cards, so that the retailer, the manufacturer, and the “greens” can make a lot of money…
