The Legendary Voice of The Elder Scrolls Lives On! [VIDEO]

Wes Johnson’s life has been saved by fans, and his voice may even appear in The Elder Scrolls VI in the future.

Johnson’s voice has been used in several of Bethesda Game Studios’ role-playing games, including The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Fallout 3, and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. He almost died when the actor traveled to Atlanta to host a charity event for the National Alzheimer’s Foundation in the US. His wife, Kim Johnson, contacted the hotel where he was staying after he failed to show up for the event. Security guards found him unconscious in a rented hotel room and could barely detect a pulse.

They then set up a GoFundMe community fundraising campaign for her to help pay the hospital bill. Johnson was in a coma. He is now conscious and thanked fans for their support in a video also posted on GoFundMe: “Rumors of my demise. Well, they weren’t exaggerated. It was very close. Very close. But I’m still here. I’m still here because my wife decided to call the hotel where I was staying, because I do announcements for the Alzheimer’s Association, and had my son call security [to find out] that I was almost dead. They took me to the hospital and put me in a coma. I found out that there’s a lot of love in this world that I didn’t know was out there. And I’m grateful to each and every one of you. I love you all. And I’m not going anywhere. It’s going to be a while as I work my way back. But I’ll be back. I look forward to seeing you very soon.”

The goal was $50,000, but now more than $178,000 has been raised to support Johnson! Johnson thanked the Alzheimer’s Foundation for bringing his family to Atlanta and also thanked Ted Leonsis. He is the chairman of the parent company of the Washington Capitals (for whom Johnson is the play-by-play announcer) and has donated $25,000 to the campaign. Johnson has had an extensive acting career, including roles in television series such as Veep and The Wire, as well as work as a radio host and Capitals announcer. He is known to players as the voice of Lachance, Sheograth, and all of the Imperial Guardians of Oblivion.
