‘Superman’ Test Screenings Spark Mixed Reactions, Leaving DC Fans Confused

MOVIE NEWS – James Gunn’s Superman is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated films of 2025, with David Corenswet stepping into the role of the Man of Steel. While Zack Snyder loyalists may remain skeptical, most DC fans are eagerly hoping for the film’s success, as it could be the much-needed turning point for the DC Universe after years of divisive releases.

The first test screenings for Gunn’s film have already taken place, and the director has confirmed that minor reshoots will be carried out ahead of the film’s theatrical release, currently set for July 11, 2026. However, fans are desperate to know what the initial reactions have been. So far, two conflicting reports have emerged, painting very different pictures of how audiences responded.

The first report comes from industry insider Jeff Sneider, who shared his take on The Hot Mic podcast. According to Sneider, a trusted source of his had nothing but negative things to say about Superman following the test screenings. “I got a call from my best source after that newsletter,” Sneider revealed. “They told me, ‘Great newsletter, but you got one thing wrong. Superman isn’t great. In fact, I keep hearing it’s ‘terrible.’”

For those optimistic about the film giving the DCU a fresh start, this report may be concerning. However, a contrasting perspective was offered on The John Campea Show, where the host dismissed Sneider’s claims. “I’ve heard the exact opposite,” Campea stated. “From what I’ve been told, Superman is actually incredibly good.”

At this stage, both reports should be taken with a grain of salt. Neither Sneider nor Campea have confirmed sources directly linked to the test screenings, meaning these reactions may be little more than speculation. Ultimately, fans will have to wait for official promotional material—or better yet, the final release—before making up their minds. Superman is set to hit theaters on July 11, 2026.

The Truth Behind Superman‘s Reshoots

While rumors surrounding the test screenings remain unverified, one concrete fact has emerged: Superman will undergo minor reshoots. This was confirmed by James Gunn during a recent DC Studios press conference. “We’ve already held proper screenings,” Gunn stated. “We’re constantly learning and refining, making small edits as we go.”

For many fans, the word “reshoots” sets off alarm bells, often associated with troubled productions. Gunn, however, reassured audiences that these additional shoots are nothing major, focusing primarily on fine-tuning action sequences. “I found myself thinking, ‘You know what? I wish I had a shot of that punch landing just right,’” Gunn explained.

Alongside Corenswet, the film stars Milly Alcock, Rachel Brosnahan, Nicholas Hoult, Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Frank Grillo, Anthony Carrigan, Edi Gathegi, and more. Following Superman, the DCU’s next major theatrical release will be Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, scheduled to arrive in 2027.
