The Creators of Frostpunk Reveal The Alters, a Bold Sci-Fi Strategy Game Launching in June [VIDEO]

The developers behind Frostpunk and This War of Mine return with a genre-bending survival and strategy title: The Alters, releasing June 13 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series, and Game Pass.

After months of delays and speculation, 11 bit studios has finally confirmed the release date for its ambitious new game, The Alters. Unveiled during the Triple-I Initiative showcase, the title is set to arrive on June 13, blending base management mechanics with a deeply narrative-driven science fiction experience.

Cloning Yourself to Stay Alive

Accompanying the announcement, a fresh trailer showed off new gameplay footage. The Alters revolves around Jan Dolski, a stranded survivor on a hostile alien planet. Faced with imminent death, he uses advanced technology to create alternative versions of himself—each one built to assist in the operation and survival of a remote colony under constant threat.

These “Alters” are not mere copies; they are distinct individuals with different personalities, emotional baggage, and life trajectories. One may be a skilled botanist, another a hardened miner—each useful in their own right but also carrying their own beliefs, traumas, and motivations. The colony becomes a melting pot of conflicting identities, where emotional dynamics are just as vital to manage as oxygen levels or food supplies.

More Than a Management Sim

The complexity of The Alters lies in its combination of resource allocation, exploration, and psychological tension. Players won’t just be building structures and gathering materials—they’ll need to navigate moral dilemmas and interpersonal conflicts shaped by each Alter’s backstory. A miner might still mourn a lost marriage, while a botanist could be emotionally detached, leading to unexpected consequences within the base.

Known for emotionally charged titles, 11 bit studios once again challenges players with choices that extend beyond gameplay. The Alters continues the studio’s legacy of thought-provoking design, now layered with bold sci-fi storytelling. The game launches June 13 across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass.
