Although the Xbox boss was being interviewed about the Minecraft movie, the discussion did touch on games, and Phil Spencer is quite optimistic about them.
In an interview with Variety, Spencer said that there would be no complaints about the Xbox game lineup by 2025, but he had to try not to get carried away. This is clearly a reference to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remaster, which has been leaked almost in its entirety and is expected to be released next week. He also touched on how good a partner Nintendo is for Microsoft:
“For us and the rest of this calendar year, I feel really good about the slate of games. We just had Avowed come out, and I have to go back and just say that Obsidian continues to do a great job. We’ve obviously talked about The Outer Worlds 2, South of Midnight, Doom: The Dark Ages… There’s more stuff, some stuff that’s unannounced and I’m walking around in my head to make sure I don’t leak anything. Nintendo’s been a great partner. We think the Nintendo Switch 2 is a unique way for us to reach players who aren’t PC players, who aren’t Xbox players… I’m really a big believer in what Nintendo means to this industry and us continuing to support them. And getting their support for our franchises, I think, is an important part of our future,” Spencer said.
What else could Spencer have talked about? We’ve long heard rumors of Gears of War and Halo collections that could target Nintendo and Sony consoles. We don’t hear many rumors about them, but it’s possible that there will be some buzz about them in May, leading up to the Xbox Games Showcase in the E3 period.
All that’s sacred is that Microsoft’s game lineup this year could be described as stronger, or at least more visible, as there’s still a lot of secrecy in Sony’s space regarding 2025.
