Square Enix just gave Final Fantasy fans something to celebrate. All signs point to Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launching on Nintendo Switch 2, and Naoki Hamaguchi is teasing even more parts of the remake saga arriving in the future.
The two Final Fantasy VII Remake entries have been major landmarks in modern gaming. Square Enix proved it can successfully reimagine one of the most iconic JRPGs in history. While PlayStation and PC users have been able to enjoy both games, fans on Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch have been left waiting for their turn to join Cloud, Tifa, Aerith and the rest of the crew.
But now, thanks to a new video posted on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel, it seems like Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is heading to the Switch 2. For now, we know that Final Fantasy VII Remake Integrade will launch on Nintendo’s next console in 2025, although a specific date hasn’t been confirmed yet. In the interview, Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi had this to say:
“I hope players are excited for the Final Fantasy VII remake saga on Nintendo Switch 2. I have high hopes that we can build a strong collaboration with Nintendo.”
Not only does this suggest that Rebirth will arrive on Switch 2, but Remake Part 3 could follow as well. The mention of a “saga” implies Square Enix is planning to bring the entire trilogy to the console—potentially around 2027 or 2028, if all goes according to plan.
More AAA Games Are Heading to Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 is shaping up to be a capable enough platform to host major third-party AAA releases. Games like Cyberpunk 2077, Elden Ring, and Hogwarts Legacy have already confirmed ports to the console. Other developers, including Ubisoft, have also pledged long-term support for the platform. Remember: Switch 2 officially launches on June 5.
