MOVIE NEWS – The Australian superstar’s wax figure will be on display until early June – and visitors can enjoy surprises, interactive attractions, and discounts during the birthday weekend.
Chris Hemsworth made a surprise “appearance” at Madame Tussauds Budapest‘s second birthday: his wax figure is on view on Dorottya Street until early June. In nearly 730 days of operation, the venue has seen everything from marriage proposals to lost Munkácsy paintings and celebrity visits.
The Budapest attraction opened on May 23, 2023, becoming the 250-year-old brand’s first franchise-run site. Coincidentally, May 23 is also special for Hemsworth, who received his Hollywood Walk of Fame star on this date last year.
The birthday surprise this year was Hemsworth’s figure, already present at the press launch and remaining until early June for fans to see.
At 41, Hemsworth’s career began with the series Home and Away in 2004, followed by Star Trek, A Perfect Getaway, Men in Black, and Ghostbusters. He became a global star in the Marvel universe as Thor.
Privately, he’s a father of three and married to Elsa Pataky, who has Hungarian roots on her mother’s side. The couple shares matching tattoos, and Chris has his kids’ initials on his forearm. The kiss scene in Thor: The Dark World wasn’t with Natalie Portman—it was Elsa, as Natalie was unavailable for reshoots.
Katinka Hosszú unveiled her own figure, while Ágnes Keleti, Ferenc Puskás’ family, and Thibaut Courtois all visited. The number of figures has grown from 51 to nearly 60 in two years.
Figures added include Zendaya, Harry Styles, Steve Jobs, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Michael Jackson, and E.T.. One Italian man proposed to his girlfriend in front of Pope Francis’ figure. Mihály Munkácsy’s wax figure was reunited with a lost painting of his.
During the May 24–25 birthday weekend, visitors will be treated to Hemsworth’s Vienna-arriving figure, interactive elements, spectacles, and discounts.
