Will All iPhone 17 Models Use Metalens?

TECH NEWS – The Cupertino-based tech giant may significantly reduce the size of the Face ID sensor and Dynamic Island on this year’s smartphones.

We first saw the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max in 2022, so Apple has made significant progress in using less area compared to notching. However, the precise, pill-shaped cutout has lost its novelty, as there is little distinguishable aesthetic difference between the current generation of models and the previous series. Now, however, we hear that Apple is working on metalens technology that will allow for a reduction in the size of the Face ID sensor and a smaller Dynamic Island when applied to the entire iPhone 17 series.

Apple made Dynamic Island standard on all its devices with the iPhone 15, but using metalenses could also make the Face ID sensor smaller. Jeff Pu, an analyst at GF Securities, was the first to discuss adjustments to upcoming devices. Rather than only the high-end iPhone 17 Pro Max having the metalens technology, it will be shared by all four models.

This change means that the entire iPhone 17 range will have a smaller Dynamic Island and a higher screen-to-body ratio. Fortunately, the functionality of the cutout is not expected to change; it can resize depending on the user’s activity or the open app. Previously, Pu speculated that the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air would have 8 GB of RAM. However, we recently reported that this would only apply to the base model, which would have additional limitations compared to the other models.

The specs of the iPhone 17 aren’t widely known yet, certainly not officially, as Apple won’t talk about them until September. Pu hasn’t always been accurate with his Apple-related leaks, so until then, this information is unofficial.
