Radahn? Please. – The Elden Ring Movie Director Thinks the Notorious Boss Is Easy

MOVIE NEWS – “Radahn is easy,” claims the director of the Elden Ring movie, instantly setting himself apart from the average gamer: he has absolutely no qualms about summoning help. The filmmaker has openly called himself a gamer for years.

The growing confidence surrounding video game adaptations in Hollywood has brought us news that’s left many fans unsure how to feel: the Elden Ring movie is officially happening and is already in production. FromSoftware’s notoriously challenging title, which won Game of the Year in 2022, has been a massive hit, but adapting it for the big screen is anything but obvious—and it has sparked as much skepticism as excitement.

Since someone has to take on the challenge, at least it seems Alex Garland is a solid pick. The Annihilation and Ex Machina director isn’t just well-versed in sci-fi storytelling—he’s also played the game for fun, not just as research. In an interview with IGN, Garland revealed he’s on his seventh playthrough, and he actually finds Rahdan, one of the game’s most feared bosses, surprisingly straightforward.

“Rahdan is really easy. I think he’s easy because as long as you activate the people who can assist you in that fight, they’ll start fighting, take away, I don’t know, half of his ‘energy,’ and you just finish him off. In the end, it’s all about using the summoning symbols.”

If that statement made your eye twitch, you’re probably one of those Elden Ring players who can’t stand summoning. The FromSoftware community has always had a masochistic streak, and rejecting summons has been a point of debate since day one. Garland, however, sides with the more pragmatic fans: if the help is there, there’s probably a reason.

“Malenia is the real challenge”

While Rahdan’s difficulty doesn’t faze the director, he does agree with the community that Malenia is the true threat. His philosophy, though, is the same as he learned in Dark Souls: try, try again until you win. Plenty of players have given up on From titles over the years, but Garland jokes that it’s a bit like putting monkeys at typewriters—if you keep at it, eventually you’ll hit the right key.

Garland has been an unapologetic gamer for years, to the point where video games have influenced his movies. He recently admitted that the dogs from the first Resident Evil inspired the zombies in 28 Days Later, and he also drew heavily from The Last of Us for the same film. Garland is clearly excited to talk about Elden Ring as a game, but don’t ask him about the movie just yet—he’s made it clear he’s not revealing anything for now.
