Silent Hill f: Watch the Opening Scene of the Game! [VIDEO]

At Anime Expo, Konami presented the opening sequence of its spin-off set in 1960s Japan. An audience member recorded the presentation on his phone.

The footage was captured during a panel at the Silent Hill f event in Los Angeles on Friday and appears to be the game’s opening cutscene. According to a Reddit user, attendees were asked not to record, but one person clearly ignored that request: “I was at the event, where pictures and video weren’t allowed, which is why you won’t see much. Even then, they didn’t show much of the game; it was mainly the director, writer, and composer talking about the game and its development. The only gameplay shown was a 30-second snippet of Hinako walking down a path, approaching a shrine, receiving a prompt to pray, and then walking away—that was basically it.”

In Silent Hill f, you follow Shimizu Hinako, a high school girl from Ebisugaoka as she explores her hometown shrouded in fog and transforming into a nightmarish landscape. She must solve puzzles and fight for her life. As Hinako tries to survive in the fog-bound town, her choices determine her fate. Will she choose elegance and beauty, or descend into madness and horror? Is she doomed to surrender to the unfolding insanity, or can she face her fears and find an escape?

The development mission was as follows: Find the beauty in terror. You’ll discover an authentic vision of 1960s Japan, with intricate details in the misty townscape that are especially striking in 4K. Both visuals and music play with the contrast between beauty and fear. The game’s terrifyingly beautiful monster designs—created by Kera—blend Japanese horror with the uniqueness of previous Silent Hill titles. Akira Yamaoka and Kensuke Inage composed music that evokes the past while fitting the new setting.

Puzzles are rooted in psychological anguish and suffering. Ryukishi07 ties them deeply into the story, and also into elements of Japanese culture, such as scarecrows. The game’s unique combat system makes encounters as challenging as Hinako’s struggles in life. Fights are more melee-focused and action-oriented than in Silent Hill 2 Remake.

Silent Hill f launches on September 25 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
