After 38 Years, Hellraiser Finally Gets the Horror Game It Deserves! [VIDEO]

It took nearly four decades, but we’re finally getting the Hellraiser game horror fans have always dreamed of. The first trailer looks spectacular, and Clive Barker’s twisted world will soon arrive on PC, Xbox Series, and PS5 in Hellraiser: Revival.

Few monsters in cinema are as iconic as Hellraiser’s Pinhead, yet the character has never found success in the video game world. Every past attempt at a Hellraiser game fizzled out before release, leading fans to give up hope. But there’s reason to celebrate: Clive Barker’s Hellraiser: Revival has been officially announced—and it’s a single-player action-horror adventure, not the multiplayer concept many feared.

The project is led by Boss Team Games, with support from Saber Interactive—the team behind Evil Dead: The Game. Legendary creator Clive Barker himself is deeply involved, thrilled to finally see a Hellraiser game worthy of his name. “Working on the first true Hellraiser game has been an adventure deep within my darkest recesses,” said Barker, who also penned Cabal and other horror classics.

Barker praised the developers’ obsession with detail, saying they’re “capturing the essence, the seductive pull of suffering, the beauty in the grotesque, and building a narrative that invites players to step beyond the threshold.”

A Cursed History in Video Games

It’s astonishing that, after all this time, there’s never been a real Hellraiser video game—Pinhead’s only recent gaming appearance was in Dead by Daylight. “Hellraiser is the quintessential horror series and lends itself perfectly to a video game,” said Saber Interactive CEO Matthew Karch. So what can players expect from this new survival horror?

Hellraiser: Revival thrusts players into a nightmare that fuses survival horror with story-driven action. “This is a blend of action and survival horror taken to a terrifying new level,” say the devs. The story centers on Aidan, a young man who must unlock the dark powers of the Lament Configuration to save his girlfriend from a hellish abyss.

After making a pact with the sinister Pinhead, players gain infernal powers to face off against the Cenobite-worshipping cult. Of course, there are also more traditional weapons to inflict pain on those who chase you. “Saber has had success with other horror series, and working with Clive to create tense gameplay and a new story exploring pain and pleasure has been a true pleasure. We can’t wait to open the gates of hell,” the studio said.

In great news for longtime fans, Pinhead will once again be portrayed by actor Doug Bradley, returning to the role after nearly 20 years. There’s no set release date yet, but Hellraiser: Revival is confirmed for PC, Xbox Series, and PS5, with a collector’s edition planned for diehard Hellraiser fans.
