MOVIE NEWS – Vince Gilligan, best known for creating Breaking Bad, is finally returning to television after more than a decade away. His new series, Pluribus, is a major departure into the realm of science fiction, and the first teaser keeps things shrouded in mystery. Starring Rhea Seehorn, the show launches on Apple TV+ on November 7.
It’s been over 12 years since Vince Gilligan last introduced a new TV show, but he’s back at last with a project that steps far outside the world of Breaking Bad. For Pluribus, Gilligan leaves gritty Albuquerque behind and embraces science fiction—great news for anyone who loved his work on The X-Files. Apple TV+ just released the first, incredibly cryptic teaser, which reveals little to nothing about the plot or characters.
The series has been in the works for some time, first entering the rumor mill after the conclusion of Better Call Saul (created by Peter Gould, with Gilligan directing and writing several episodes). Details were slim at first: all we really knew was that Rhea Seehorn would star, and that it was sci-fi. But with the new teaser, a few more hints have arrived—including a bizarre logline.
Pluribus’s brief, seven-second teaser shows a woman licking donuts and returning them to the box for no apparent reason. The official description, though, might be a key clue: the show centers on “the most miserable person on Earth, tasked to save the world from happiness.” A new still released with the teaser shows Seehorn looking troubled as she answers a call. Pluribus premieres its nine-episode first season on November 7.
‘Pluribus’ Reunites Vince Gilligan With ‘Better Call Saul’ Star Rhea Seehorn
There’s been a lot of cryptic buildup for this show—fitting, since Gilligan is known for keeping storylines under wraps. In a Deadline interview earlier this year, Gilligan shed some light: Seehorn’s character is “Someone who’s trying very hard to be good. She’s a bit of a damaged hero, but she’s a hero nonetheless. It’s just a pleasure to work with her because she’s just the best.”
Seehorn and Gilligan previously teamed up on “Waterworks,” a pivotal episode in Better Call Saul’s final season, which Gilligan both wrote and directed. That prequel tracked Jimmy McGill’s (Bob Odenkirk) transformation into Saul Goodman, with Seehorn as Kim Wexler—his legal partner and romantic interest. Her performance was a major part of the show’s acclaim, with “Waterworks” standing out as a career highlight. Fans are expecting more great things from her collaboration with Gilligan on Pluribus.
Apple seems confident in the Pluribus team—the show has already been renewed for a second season ahead of its debut. Previous Apple TV+ sci-fi hits like Severance and Silo prove there’s an audience for ambitious series, and Pluribus looks poised to join them. A full trailer is hopefully on the horizon.
