Uncharted Fans Are Getting Increasingly Frustrated

It seems that Naughty Dog has no time or space to revisit the franchise that got its start on PlayStation 3. More and more fans are concerned that a new Uncharted game isn’t coming anytime soon as the series remains dormant.

Uncharted fans are growing more anxious, worried that it’ll be a long time before they see a new entry. Even though Sony insisted we throw grenades with the Sixaxis motion controller in 2007’s Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, the game immediately won over PlayStation 3 owners—many of whom paid a hefty price for the console. The series, starring the charismatic Nathan Drake, Victor Sullivan, Elena Fisher, and Chloe Frazer, undeniably improved with each new release.

Picking the best game in the franchise is no easy task: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, or Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End? Still, Uncharted 4 originally launched on PlayStation 4 back in 2016, and if you don’t count the remastered and spin-off games, it’s the last true new title from Naughty Dog in the series. (So Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is not included here.)

That means we haven’t seen a new Uncharted for nearly a decade. It’s now looking more and more likely that the PlayStation 5 will become the first console not to get a new game in the series—something that would be a real shame. While it could be argued that Naughty Dog is busy with the not-yet-announced The Last of Us Part III, there’s still a wealth of stories to tell in the Uncharted universe—even if Nathan Drake no longer takes center stage.

On Reddit, opinions are mixed: some users feel that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End provided a perfect ending, with The Lost Legacy serving as a welcome bonus. Others thought The Lost Legacy hinted at more to come, leaving the door open for a sequel or spin-off. Some hope for a Sully-Sam adventure or even a prequel starring a young Sully, while others believe the Uncharted story is over and that Naughty Dog has moved on.

It’s hard to disagree: the studio has indeed branched out to tackle entirely new projects several times before.
