MOVIE NEWS – Despite being developed and marketed as a limited series, Netflix has just renewed its breakout crime thriller for a second season. While it was believed this show would be a one-off, the first season’s success made it clear the streamer wants more—and more is on the way.
Debuting earlier this month, Untamed stars Eric Bana (Black Hawk Down, Troy) as Kyle Turner, a special agent with the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (ISB), who enforces human law in the untamed wilderness. When a brutal death sends Turner deep into an investigation, he must face the darkest secrets within the park—and his own past. The series was meant to last just the six episodes now available, but after rocketing to the top of Netflix’s charts, it’s officially coming back for Season 2.
“I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of ‘Untamed’ to life,” lead star Eric Bana said in a statement. “The response to season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can’t wait to take Kyle on his next journey. Massive thanks to Netflix, John Wells Productions, Warner Bros. Television and our fans.”
What’s Next for Untamed Season 2?
Alongside Bana, the all-star cast features Sam Neill (Jurassic Park), Rosemarie DeWitt (La La Land, The Staircase), Wilson Bethel (Daredevil, All Rise), and Lily Santiago (La Brea, Mary Jane on Broadway). Untamed quickly shot to #1 on both the global and U.S. Netflix Top 10, with audiences hungry for this “half-True Detective, half-Ozark, all Taylor Sheridan” thriller.
The show is now enjoying rave reviews from both critics and viewers. Untamed boasts a certified fresh 80% score from critics and 71% from viewers, with the consensus stating: “Wrangled by Eric Bana’s steady star power, Untamed’s solid murder mystery is elevated by the visually sumptuous backdrop of its Yosemite National Park milieu.”
No one knows exactly where Season 2 will go, but co-creator Elle Smith has already teased possible directions: “Oh, we would do this forever if they let us, but we’ll see. We’ll see how many adventures Turner has left in him… They go to different national parks and they do travel from park to park and case to case and things like that. So I think that’s what was interesting to us, and if we got the opportunity to do it again, it would be getting to explore a different park, a different case.”
