Capcom Is Disappointed with Monster Hunter Wilds Sales: 10 Million Units Still Not Enough for the Japanese Giant

Capcom isn’t upset about technical issues—it’s the Monster Hunter Wilds sales numbers that have left the company cold. Despite moving 10 million units in the first month, the Japanese publisher considers this result “weak.”

Monster Hunter has firmly established itself as one of the industry’s most profitable franchises. So, it was hardly surprising when Capcom reported Monster Hunter Wilds surpassed 10 million copies sold in its first month. Yet even with this astronomical milestone, Capcom—and fans accustomed to Resident Evil’s performance—expected more from their latest monster-hunting adventure.

The details come from Capcom’s quarterly financial report (covering April, May, and June), which recaps the commercial fortunes of its key franchises. “Although sales of Monster Hunter Wilds were weak, the latest title in the series, released in February of this year, and a previous title in the same series, Monster Hunter Rise, continued to see sales growth.”

Capcom went on: “Following the announcement of the latest Resident Evil game in June, sales for Resident Evil titles continued to climb, driven by Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 4 Remake. Branding initiatives also boosted Devil May Cry 5 and other games, bringing overall title sales to 13.36 million—up from 9.26 million sold during the same period last year.”

A recent Capcom presentation shared the total sales for its most important IPs:

• Resident Evil – 174 million
• Monster Hunter – 122 million
• Street Fighter – 57 million
• Mega Man – 43 million
• Devil May Cry – 36 million

However, Capcom still hasn’t addressed Monster Hunter Wilds’ biggest problem. While content updates continue, fans are frustrated that ongoing technical issues remain unresolved. The game’s Steam rating has sunk to “Extremely Negative,” and the next patch again overlooks much-needed optimization fixes—so anyone struggling with performance issues will have to keep waiting for further updates.
