MOVIE NEWS – Forget Peter Parker and Miles Morales: a brand-new Spider-Man movie is coming, headlined by an Oscar-winning actor. With a guitar, a mohawk, a Clash patch, and a spiked bracelet, Spider-Punk is the next hero in Sony’s animated Spider-Verse saga.
While Tom Holland is once again donning the suit for Spider-Man: Brand New Day (out July 2026), Sony Pictures has thrown a curveball with an announcement that shakes up the Spider-Verse even further. The next Spider-Man film won’t star Peter Parker or Miles Morales. Instead, the spotlight shifts to Spider-Punk—a boundary-pushing take on the wall-crawler who became an instant fan favorite after debuting in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.
As revealed exclusively by Deadline and confirmed by Adoro Cinema, Sony Pictures Animation is currently developing a new animated film focused on Spider-Punk. This time, the story will revolve around Hobie Brown, once again voiced by Daniel Kaluuya, who also co-writes the film with Ajon Singh.
Oscar winner Kaluuya (Judas and the Black Messiah) returns not only to voice the charismatic anarchist Spider-Punk but is also taking an active role in shaping the creative direction of the movie. This marks another milestone in his filmmaking career, following his co-directorial debut with The Kitchen and his upcoming live-action Barney project at A24.
A Character That’s Won Over Spider-Verse Fans
Spider-Punk, created by Dan Slott and Olivier Coipel, first appeared in comics in 2015. Hailing from Earth-138, an alternate universe where an electric guitar is as mighty as a web, his punk attitude and rebellious aesthetic quickly made him one of the Spider-Verse’s most beloved characters.
Main trilogy producers Phil Lord, Christopher Miller, and Amy Pascal will also oversee this new spin-off, underscoring Sony’s commitment to expanding the Spider-Verse with even more unique heroes. While we await the conclusion of the animated trilogy with Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse (slated for June 2027), this film is set to keep the web-slinging creativity alive—even though no official release date has been set yet.
