Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Launches in 20 Days—But a Key Mode Won’t Arrive Until Months Later!

The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake will release in just 20 days. The Fox Hunt multiplayer mode will not be included at launch and will only arrive later this year.

Konami is in the final stretch of reviving one of its most iconic franchises: the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, officially titled Metal Gear Solid Delta, lands on August 28. This modern reimagining of the 2004 classic has fans eager to relive Hideo Kojima’s legendary story, but the publisher has confirmed that the launch package will be incomplete, as the Fox Hunt multiplayer mode will arrive later. At least now we know when it’s coming.

First revealed in June last year, Fox Hunt is a brand-new online mode for Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater that completely breaks from the traditional multiplayer experience of previous entries. This isn’t a revamped version of the Metal Gear Online from the PS2’s Subsistence edition, but an all-new concept built on “Metal Gear stealth rules” and incorporating weapons, camouflage, and other content from the base game.

Fox Hunt Arrives This Fall—With a Series Veteran Leading Development

Konami confirmed today that Fox Hunt will arrive in fall 2025. The delay is due to the mode being developed by a separate team led by Yu Sahara, a series veteran with credits on Metal Gear Solid 4, Peace Walker, and The Phantom Pain, ensuring a depth of gameplay worthy of the franchise.

Speaking to VGC, Sahara explained that while many Metal Gear Online fans have been waiting for its return, the multiplayer gaming landscape has changed drastically since then. Fox Hunt builds on the most popular rulesets from the old game, combines them with the series’ signature stealth, and enhances the tension with modern graphical upgrades—creating, in Sahara’s words, “a game of hide-and-seek supercharged with strategy and adrenaline.”

As Fox Hunt will not be released as a standalone title but as part of the base game, Konami aims to capture both nostalgic veterans and new players. Producer Noriaki Okamura emphasized that, despite the original being two decades old, numerous refinements have been made to ensure it meets modern standards while preserving the essence of the original experience.
