This Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake Surprise Won’t Make Fans Happy

One of the most hyped additions to Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, the Fox Hunt mode, will come without crossplay. That means PC, PS5, and Xbox Series players won’t be able to face each other in this stealth-based multiplayer experience.

Everything is in place to bring back one of the most iconic experiences in gaming history. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is right around the corner, with trailers already whetting fans’ appetites, promising fresh features for Hideo Kojima’s legendary saga. Among these is Fox Hunt, an all-new multiplayer mode completely separate from the well-known Metal Gear Online, designed entirely around stealth gameplay. Unfortunately, it’s now confirmed that PC, PS5, and Xbox Series players will be stuck on their own platforms for this mode.

Developers broke the news in a short statement on X, sparking instant backlash from fans. “Regarding the online multiplayer mode Fox Hunt of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, crossplay between different platforms will not be supported.” In other words, different platform players won’t share lobbies, forcing separate stealth skirmishes for each ecosystem.

Players have been vocal about their disappointment on social media, especially since crossplay has become a standard in multiplayer gaming. To make matters worse, this comes on top of an earlier blow: Fox Hunt won’t even be available at launch, arriving instead in late 2025. So anyone eager to test their stealth and espionage skills will need to keep waiting.

What Is Fox Hunt?

Many immediately compared the mode to Metal Gear Online, but Konami has clarified it plays very differently from the extra content bundled with Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsistence. Based on what’s been revealed, the mode revolves heavily around infiltration and stealth — a sort of hide-and-seek where players can blend seamlessly into their surroundings. That means even something as ordinary as a pile of rocks could be hiding an opponent lying in wait.
