Forget artifacts – Indy’s greatest treasure might be his hair, now powered by NVIDIA’s cutting-edge RTX Hair technology. The update lands in September, bringing path tracing and more realistic hair rendering than any game has ever achieved before. For now, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is the only title to showcase it, optimized for the latest RTX 50 GPUs.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle has already proven itself as a strong entry in the adventurer’s legacy, rivaling the very best games inspired by the world’s most famous archaeologist. After launching on PS5 last spring, the game broadened its reach, but MachineGames wasn’t ready to stop there. The Bethesda studio is currently polishing the upcoming expansion set for September, as well as developing a Nintendo Switch 2 version scheduled for 2026.
The Future of Indy’s Hair
Just when we thought we had seen everything, NVIDIA unveiled an unexpected feature: Indy’s hair will look more real than ever before. The company confirmed that The Great Circle will be the first game to introduce RTX Hair, a technology that represents hair using spheres instead of triangles to achieve better volume, lighting, and shadow effects.
The most impressive part? RTX Hair is designed to minimize performance impact and memory usage. The September update will implement the system alongside full path tracing, ensuring that Indiana Jones’s hair looks more natural during both cutscenes and gameplay.
According to The Verge, the tech leverages the new RTX 50 GPUs, which feature specific acceleration for hair ray tracing and LLS support. Instead of building strands with triangles, the system uses cylinders that mirror the actual shape of hair, cutting down on unnecessary geometry and making lighting calculations far more efficient. NVIDIA calls it “a major step towards high-quality digital humans in real time,” available exclusively with RTX 50 hardware and path tracing.
At the moment, no other titles have been announced with RTX Hair, so all eyes will be on Indiana Jones to see how this breakthrough in hair rendering truly performs.
