It took Activision “only” 53 days to bring back Call of Duty: WW2, which had been disabled on PC after a serious security exploit was discovered. The WWII shooter is back, but fans are far from reassured.

Alongside other classic entries in the franchise, the title raised alarms among PC players after the discovery of an exploit that allowed attackers to execute remote commands and take external control of affected systems. The issue gained widespread attention shortly after the game joined PC Game Pass, prompting Activision to pull it from both the subscription service and the Microsoft Store. Now, 53 days later, the development team has announced its return on both platforms.

Call of Duty: WW2 remained offline for almost two months. Following its addition to PC Game Pass, players reported a Remote Command Execution (RCE) vulnerability that put their systems at risk. This flaw could potentially allow hackers to steal data or even take full control of devices during matches.

The alarm spread quickly, and on July 5, Activision removed the game from the Microsoft Store on PC, citing “reports of an issue.” The title stayed unavailable until this week, when the Call of Duty Updates account on X confirmed its return to the Microsoft Store and, therefore, PC Game Pass. However, Activision has yet to officially address whether the exploit has been fixed, a detail that has not gone unnoticed by the community.

Players fear the exploit may still be active

Gamers are worried about the lack of transparency regarding what measures have been taken to address the flaw. On Reddit, one user wrote: “I haven’t found any patch notes indicating that the remote execution issue has been fixed. Personally, I’ll wait a few weeks before jumping back in for security reasons. Hopefully it’s resolved, because I’d love to play again.” For now, fans will have to wait either for official word from Activision or for feedback from others who try the game to see how the situation unfolds.
