Players can now return to the jungle in the rebuilt Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake, renamed Delta. While the chance to revisit one of the greatest stealth and espionage games in history excites many, there’s also a sense of melancholy, as fans miss Hideo Kojima’s meticulous detail and trademark “Kojimadas.” The legendary creator himself has already said he won’t play it.
In an interview with SSense, Hideo Kojima plainly stated he will “not” play Metal Gear Solid Delta, the remake produced by Virtuos and published by Konami. In that conversation, he expressed frustration with the state of the industry and encouraged studios to take more creative risks. Still, some Konami veterans who worked with him on earlier games emphasize they want the project handled with care and hope Kojima might at least see the result.
Producers Noriaki Okamura and Yuji Korekado stressed their commitment: “We want to release this game being very respectful of everyone we worked with before.” Their approach has been to modernize controls and presentation without compromising the essence of MGS3.
Kojima Doesn’t Spend Much Time Playing Games
Okamura added (via Gamesradar), “We would love for Kojima to see it as well.” Kojima, however, explained (via RollingStone) that he plays at most one game per year, dedicating his time instead to movies, books, meeting people, and visiting museums. “I don’t play games that much. I watch movies, read books, meet people, and go to museums, but I don’t copy anything from other games. I review my own games, but the most important thing for me is to think outside the box.” He added that for him, real life is the true source of inspiration he carries into his creations.
