NetEase’s popular hero shooter will join an unexpected console alongside the launch of its fourth season – not the one you’d think.
Season 4 of Marvel Rivals, titled The Heart of the Dragon, kicks off on September 13. The Timestream Entanglement has united the Seven Capitals, forming the Heart of Heaven. After Knull’s fall, Hela was imprisoned in An’Hay-Zhidi, where Dizang, the Devil of the Eighth City, forced her to atone for her sins. Angela, however, refuses to forgive her betrayal and storms the Heart of Heaven demanding Hela’s release. But its guardian refuses to hand her over. Justice will prevail, and a debt will be paid.
As this battle unfolds, a greater danger emerges. Doctor Doom is attempting to steal the Chronal Chi of the slumbering dragon Shou-Lao, threatening to upend the destiny of the Heavens themselves. Can Iron Fist defend the Immortal Dragon, or will Doom succeed in seizing its power? The answers come when the Heart of the Dragon awakens.
Marvel Rivals was released on December 6, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. But which new platform is it heading to with Season 4? It’s not the Nintendo Switch 2, even though that would be the logical choice given its hardware similarity to the Xbox Series S. Instead, the game will launch on PlayStation 4. Interestingly, this goes against the recent trend – just look at Genshin Impact, which recently announced it was leaving Sony’s 2013 console behind. In this case, the old hardware is not abandoned but given new life.
The game is undeniably popular – it can even keep up with Overwatch 2 – but no one expected a PlayStation 4 release. We’ll be watching closely to see how it performs on the older platform.
