Unlike last time, there will be no time limit this time, so you can thoroughly test Funcom’s MMO.
Spice must always be replenished; otherwise, Arrakis would not be Arrakis. Starting next week, this spice will be on sale for a limited time, as the MMO is preparing for its first discount promotion from September 11 to September 22. During this period, Funcom’s survival MMO will be available at a 20% discount.
This promotion coincides with another free weekend. Unlike the late-August event, however, this time players will face no restrictions. From September 11 to 15, unlimited playtime will be available (the first free weekend oddly had a 10-hour limit). Beyond the starting area, the entire map can be explored. According to Funcom, players can travel through every region, from the Hagga Basin to the deep desert, the village of Harko, and the city of Arrakeen.
Perhaps most importantly, you can now join your friends directly on their servers. This marks a departure from the first free weekend, where only trial servers were accessible, not those owned by paying players. This more flexible access seems like a direct response to the negative feedback from the last event. After the free weekend, if you decide to buy Dune: Awakening, your progress will carry over so you won’t have to restart from scratch.
Chapter 2 of Dune: Awakening and the Lost Harvest DLC will launch a day earlier, on September 9. Chapter 2 will be free for all players, including those joining during the free weekend, and continues the main storyline. It also introduces new contracts, armor sets, and a character re-customization tool that lets you change your appearance after beginning the game. The DLC adds a standalone narrative and introduces a strange new vehicle.
