Fans were only expecting a release date announcement for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, but the latest trailer revealed something entirely unexpected: open-world segments. Launching this December on Nintendo Switch, the game will even let players ride a motorcycle.
During the September 12 Nintendo Direct, the Japanese company showcased a brand-new trailer for the highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, packed with gameplay revelations and finally a release date. The game is set to launch on December 4 for Switch and Switch 2, with technical upgrades included for the latter.
The trailer revealed that, beyond the previously teased features, Samus will be able to ride a motorcycle named Vi-O-La in what appears to be a fully open-world area. Far from a mere novelty, this bike comes with its own combat mechanics. At the same time, more traditional dungeon-style sections will still be present, staying true to the franchise’s legacy.
Alongside the release date, Nintendo also confirmed themed amiibo figures for Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. The lineup includes:
- Samus (Metroid Prime 4) — November 6
- Samus and Vi-O-La (Metroid Prime 4) — November 6
- Sylux (Metroid Prime 4) — December 4
The official press release for the game states:
After an unexpected accident, Samus is transported to the mysterious planet Viewros. Players will scan their environment for clues, maximize their gear and weaponry, and use the technological marvel Vi-O-La alongside Samus’ new psychic powers to traverse and explore. Every one of these tools will be critical to surviving and escaping Viewros.
