Sony’s latest firmware update for the PS5 introduces two key features: a Power Saver mode and the ability to pair DualSense controllers with multiple devices simultaneously.
After nearly two months in beta testing, Sony has officially rolled out this system software update, with a special focus on the DualSense controller. Players can now pair the wireless controller with up to four devices and switch between them seamlessly. A new Power Saver mode has also been introduced, already supported by titles such as Demon’s Souls Remake and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and will also be supported by the upcoming Ghost of Yotei.
Before pairing, users should disconnect any USB cables and ensure the controller’s light bar and player indicator are off. If not, holding the PlayStation button will turn them off. To pair, hold down an action button (triangle, circle, cross, or square) along with the PS button for over five seconds. The lights will flash twice, and the device will appear among available Bluetooth connections. Once registered, the lights will indicate the slot number for each paired device.
Switching between devices is done by pressing the PS button plus the assigned action button. For example, PS+Triangle for a PS5, PS+Circle for a PS5 Pro, PS+Cross for a PC, and PS+Square for an iPhone. If paired with four devices, all four indicator lights will flash.
This update also aligns with Sony Interactive Entertainment’s commitment to the Road to Zero environmental plan launched in 2010, aiming for net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040. Power Saver mode reduces power consumption by lowering game performance when enabled, but only in supported titles. If not enabled, or if the game does not support it, performance and power draw remain unchanged. Note that Power Saver is not available in VR mode.
These are practical and meaningful improvements for both gamers and energy efficiency.
