TECH NEWS – Although we’ve heard that the devices are nearing mass production, it’s unlikely that Apple will launch them in 2025.
Apple typically unveils new MacBook hardware in October or November, but the company seems to have other plans this time. Mark Gurman, an editor at Bloomberg, wrote in his Power On newsletter that there are still plenty of products Apple hasn’t released yet, starting with the M5 MacBook Pro lineup. Apple unveiled the M4 models on October 30, leaving just over a month for the company to make a move.
“Beyond the fairly imminent debut of new iPad Pro and Vision Pro models, I’m told that Apple is nearing mass production of its next MacBook Pros (code-named J714 and J716), MacBook Airs (J813 and J815), and two new Mac monitors (J427 and J527). These devices are still scheduled for release between the end of this year and the first quarter of next year. It’s exciting to know they are nearing a key stage,” Gurman wrote.
Gurman did not specify when Apple plans to launch the M5 MacBook Pro, but the company usually prepares such announcements well in advance. The absence of a timeline suggests the release will not occur in October or November, making a January unveiling more likely. In the first quarter of 2026, Apple may officially announce the M5 MacBook Air series with 13-inch and 15-inch displays. The M4 Mac mini — one of Apple’s best-value products launched last year — is not getting a successor for now, but Gurman does mention the Studio Display.
The new iPad Pro lineup hasn’t been announced yet, hinting that Apple might be shifting its product launch strategy. According to Gurman, the hardware is expected to arrive in the first half of 2026. The upcoming series may not deliver any major upgrades apart from the M5, which will likely use TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process, just like the A19 and A19 Pro.
As the holiday season approaches, Apple’s M4 models are expected to receive significant discounts, driving up sales volume and boosting revenue — while also clearing inventory to make way for the M5 Macs. Currently, the M4 Max remains Apple’s most powerful notebook chip. Cinebench 2024 single-core and multi-core benchmarks show that it outperforms the Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme processor, meaning it should remain relevant for years to come.
