The Grammys Snubbed Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – But Star Wars Outlaws Crashed the Party

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ultimately failed to secure a nod for Best Score in the games category. The slots instead went to other titles, including Star Wars Outlaws and Helldivers 2. Fans argue Expedition 33’s soundtrack ranks among the finest in the medium right now.

Sound design and music are foundational to any video game, heightening immersion and overall impact. Among recent standouts, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been widely praised for nailing both elements. All the more surprising, then, that the newly announced Grammy nominees omit Expedition 33 while including Star Wars Outlaws. This has puzzled many players, since the score is central to the experience and has been a major part of the game’s acclaim.

The Grammy Nominees

The Recording Academy has published the full list of Grammy 2025 contenders, and the Video Game and Other Interactive Media category features tracks from Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Helldivers 2, Star Wars Outlaws, Indiana Jones, and Sword of the Sea. Missing in action is Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, despite standout pieces like Flying Water, Lumière, Until You’re Gone, and Une vie à t’aimer drawing raves from audiences. Many would go so far as to call the score one of gaming’s best in years.

The Grammys tend to reflect American mainstream tastes, which can make the path tougher for a purely French production. Fans now have similar concerns about The Game Awards, where Expedition 33 is currently considered a frontrunner.
