Forget a God of War detour to Egypt or The Elder Scrolls VI. The Game Awards is playing it close to the vest, and Geoff Keighley has been stoking the hype with a cryptic desert monument that hints at a very different reveal.
We are just over a week out from The Game Awards 2025. Keighley’s show has become the industry’s headline event thanks to its blend of major trophies and even bigger announcements, and he isn’t waiting for show day to stir the pot. On November 29, he posted a mysterious photo on X along with the phrase “regal.inspiring.thickness.” With no obvious clue in sight, the community started sleuthing.
All signs suggest a Diablo IV expansion. Using What3Words, players pinned the photo to an area near Joshua Tree, California, where a sculptural installation features demonic figures, carved doors, skeletons, and grim iconography. After The Game Awards’ official account shared the real-world location, theories flew. Some read it as a tease for God of War, The Elder Scrolls, or even a brand-new IP, but the art direction and symbology align far more closely with Blizzard’s universe. The timing also fits neatly: Diablo IV Season 10 wraps on December 9, the kind of window Blizzard often uses for expansion-scale announcements.
Fueling speculation further, Windows Central’s Jez Corden replied to fans asking if this was indeed an expansion with a coy confirmation: “Yes, it is, but there’s more.” Nothing is officially confirmed yet, but the breadcrumbs look awfully deliberate. Keighley’s latest slow-burn tease may well be setting the stage for a Diablo IV expansion reveal.
