Fallout: New Vegas: A Mod Fills a Small Gambling Gap! [VIDEO]

After all, Obsidian Entertainment’s game is set in the Las Vegas area. Fifteen years later, a mod fills a small gap.

Fallout: New Vegas is a good game, but New Vegas itself is not so great. The Strip and the casinos are disappointing. The streets are empty, and the casinos are boring. You can’t even play poker in them. For the past 15 years, the selection of casino games has been limited to slot machines, blackjack, and roulette. But finally, a heroic modder has added video poker, making New Vegas more like Las Vegas. The mod, wGames — Introducing Video Poker by W00Z, adds a classic video poker game: Jacks or Better. We step up to the machine, place a bet, receive five cards, click on the ones we want to keep, and receive new cards in their place. If we have a pair of jacks, we get our money back. If our hand is higher than that (two pairs, three of a kind, a flush, or a straight), we can win big.

With the mod installed, you can find these new video poker terminals at The Tops, Gomorrah, Atomic Wrangler, and all other New Vegas casinos. The backs of the cards are different on each machine, depending on the casino where you play. The mod is customizable and can be modified in a few important ways. Your character has a Luck ability that gives you better odds in Vegas games, but you can disable it at these poker terminals if you prefer the traditional experience of losing all your money. We can also choose between the classic video poker colors with a blue screen and the more logical (and less flashy) green monochrome look. We can adjust the sounds and speed of the poker terminals and choose whether to include video poker terminals in the posh Ultra-Luxe casino (which is overly elegant for slot machines).

In a sense, video poker is linked to Las Vegas, so it’s a good mod to add to the base version of Fallout: New Vegas. Be sure to read the installation instructions and requirements on the mod page, as video poker relies on several other mods, some of which also rely on other mods.

Still, she likes puzzle and story-oriented games, like Sherlock Holmes: Crimes & Punishments, which is her favourite title. She also played The Sims 3, but after accidentally killing a whole sim family, swore not to play it again. (For our office address, email and phone number check out our IMPRESSUM)
