Two Well-Known Games Will Leave GOG!

In a few days, two games will leave CD Projekt’s DRM-free platform. At least one of them will be heavily discounted, so we can buy it at a bargain price.

If you’ve been waiting for a good opportunity to purchase the prehistoric survival game Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, now is the time. It’s currently available on GOG with an 80% discount for only €8. The bad news is that this game and Obsidian’s popular sci-fi RPG The Outer Worlds, currently available for €30, will leave the store on December 15.

“Hey folks, I have some unfortunate news. Both The Outer Worlds and Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey will be removed from the store on December 15 (I don’t have an exact time yet). We secured a discount for Ancestors but couldn’t do so for The Outer Worlds. This includes all editions and add-ons for both games,” wrote King_Kunat on the GOG forums. A GOG representative later confirmed to PC Gamer that both games are indeed leaving the store. Both expressed hope that GOG will bring the games back at some point in the future, but it’s unclear whether or not that will happen.

The reason for the removal is most likely just an administrative matter. The Outer Worlds and Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey were previously published by Private Division, a subsidiary of Take-Two. Note that Take-Two shut down Private Division last year because the company decided it was no longer worth maintaining. It later emerged that Haveli Investments had taken over the publisher and hired former Annapurna Interactive employees to run it. Subsequently, part of the company was renamed Fictions. Currently, The Outer Worlds and Ancestors are still listed as Private Division games, but they may migrate to the new publisher, and this may just be a matter of paperwork. There may be a short maintenance period before they return.

This may just be a temporary farewell.
