“We’ve been robbed!” Warhorse’s Open Outburst Stirred Debate After The 2025 TGA

Several members of Warhorse Studios publicly and, at times, sharply reacted to the results of The 2025 Game Awards. The creators of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 voiced their disappointment, with certain remarks igniting serious debate within the community.

The 2025 Game Awards have now concluded, with the clear biggest winner of the gala being Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The French-developed title not only collected the most nominations but also set records in terms of awards won. This overwhelming success, however, also placed Warhorse Studios in the spotlight. The creators of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 competed against Sandfall Interactive’s game in three categories, yet ultimately left without a single trophy. Several members of the Czech studio took this outcome hard, and some publicly expressed their frustration, going as far as stating “We’ve been robbed”.

Both role-playing games were nominated in three categories. While Tom McKay, the English voice of Henry of Skalice, did not receive a nomination for Best Performance, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 still found itself overshadowed by Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. The stakes were high: beyond the Game of the Year 2025 title, both games were in contention for Best Narrative and Best RPG, the latter becoming one of the evening’s most hotly debated decisions.

Tensions truly escalated when Geoff Keighley announced the winner of Best RPG. Daniel Vávra, the game’s director, was the first to congratulate the Sandfall Interactive team in a sportsmanlike manner, before half-jokingly remarking that “I’ll be using Air France the next day”. Shortly afterward, the game’s official social media account shared KC Green’s famous “This Is Fine” meme without any additional comment.

The strongest reaction came from Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, the studio’s head of communications, who openly declared after the Best RPG loss: “We’ve been robbed”. Such a blunt statement immediately divided the community.

The Community Criticized Warhorse’s Attitude

“You’re acting like a child because your studio didn’t win an award. It’s time to grow up”, wrote one Twitter user. Others argued that “KCD2 is an excellent game, but this is embarrassing”, and that it casts the studio in a bad light.

The tension later eased, as Stolz-Zwilling took a photo with the French developers, neatly capturing the duality of the evening.

In any case, such strong statements are a double-edged sword. The quality of Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is difficult to dispute, even if it ended up being one of the night’s biggest losers.
