MOVIE NEWS – Frida Gustavsson, the Swedish model-turned-actor currently playing Freydís Eiríksdóttir in Netflix’s Vikings: Valhalla, might be ready to swap a sword for a lasso: a small but notable social-media moment has fans wondering if she’d like a shot at one of DC’s most iconic heroes.
The spark came from an X fan account, @Diana_Prince41, which posted a screenshot showing Gustavsson liking an Instagram comment that essentially said: “like this comment if you’re interested in playing Wonder Woman”.
Plenty of replies pointed out that Gustavsson reportedly liked a lot of comments on that same post, so this single like may not mean much on its own. She also didn’t respond directly, so her personal stance on playing Wonder Woman is still unknown – though it’s hardly a stretch to imagine most actors in her position being intrigued by the possibility.
Wonder Woman’s DCU Future
Actors name-dropping – or lightly hinting at – superhero ambitions is nothing new. Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch has previously said she’d love to play Jean Grey in an X-Men reboot. Heated Rivalry actor Hudson Williams shared a photo with a Nightwing comic and the caption “James Gunn let’s grab coffee”. And The Housemaid’s Brandon Sklenar has openly pushed for the chance to play the DCU Batman.
Gustavsson hasn’t outright said she wants Wonder Woman, but the role does feel unusually open right now, because the character’s future in the DCU is still in flux. After Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman 3 starring Gal Gadot was scrapped in December 2022, DC Universe co-chair James Gunn announced an HBO prequel series focused on the Amazons before Wonder Woman’s birth, titled Paradise Lost.
Wonder Woman has also been teased elsewhere in the DCU landscape: she appeared as part of a possible future vision in Creature Commandos, which also featured the sorceress Circe – who claims she comes from the Amazon island of Themyscira. In 2025, reports said Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira had been hired to write a script for a DCU Wonder Woman film, though no release date or creative team has been revealed.
On top of that, rumors have suggested Wonder Woman could show up in Man of Tomorrow. Nothing has been confirmed, but multiple actors have reportedly tested for an unnamed female role, which at least keeps the door cracked open for a potential appearance. In short: there are a lot of strong candidates who could make a great Wonder Woman – and if Gustavsson truly wants the part, she’d be stepping into a very competitive race.
