TECH NEWS – Although there is still no official price, two websites have revealed how much Valve’s PC might cost.
Based on information leaked by a Czech retailer, we now have an idea of how much the Steam Machine will cost. The retailer Smarty.cz offers two models of the Steam Machine. According to the website’s source code, the first, a 512 GB model, will cost 19,826 CZK ($950), and the second, a 2 TB version, will cost 22,305 CZK ($1,070). However, third-party retailers can apply their own markups, so the actual retail price of Valve’s machine may be lower.

Although Valve has not made an official announcement about the price, several technology industry insiders have made it clear that the price of hardware will rise due to the current memory crisis. When asked if the company would subsidize the price of its new device, Valve clearly answered no (we have already written about this). So, although we have seen price estimates, the reality may not be favorable.
Still, considering the Steam Machine’s capabilities, paying a little over $1,000 for it is arguably a good deal, given the freedom of choice it offers over traditional consoles or the cost of building your own PC. As for when we can expect official information from Valve about the price, the latest rumors point to spring. If that’s true, we’ll soon find out the actual price.

Someone else examined the Smarty.cz source code to verify the Steam Machine price estimates and took it a step further. Alza’s list for the Steam Machine showed a similar price structure, but the actual price will be lower than the conversion estimates. We emphasize that these prices are only estimates. We won’t know anything for sure until Valve announces the official prices, so treat these estimates with caution!
