MOVIE NEWS – The White House has issued a harsh response to Mark Ruffalo after the actor accused JD Vance of “lying” and labeled Donald Trump a “pedophile.” Ruffalo made the comments while speaking on the Golden Globes red carpet. The White House has since addressed Ruffalo’s remarks about both the vice president and the president.
Last night on the Golden Globes red carpet, Ruffalo spoke with USA Today and was asked about the ‘BE GOOD’ pin pinned to his tuxedo. “This is for Renee Nicole Good, who was murdered,” the actor said.
The Murder
Good was a 37-year-old woman who was fatally shot on January 7 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, by ICE officer Jonathan Ross. Ross was involved in raids taking place in Good’s neighborhood, and footage shows her sitting behind the wheel of her car. An officer attempts to open the driver-side door, but Good tried to drive away, prompting Ross to fire. Following Good’s death and the circumstances surrounding it, Ruffalo wore the ‘BE GOOD’ pin at the ceremony alongside several other celebrities.
The Department of Homeland Security has defended the officer’s actions, arguing that Good attempted to run over an officer and that the use of force was justified.
As Ruffalo explained what the pin represented, he also launched into broader criticism, accusing Vice President JD Vance of ‘lying about what’s happening’. He then turned his attention to Trump, continuing: “We’re in the middle of a war with Venezuela that we illegally invaded. [Trump’s] telling the world that international law doesn’t matter to him.
“The only thing that matters to him is his own morality, but the guy is a convicted felon; a convicted rapist.”
“He’s a pedophile,” Ruffalo went on. “He’s the worst human being. If we’re relying on this guy’s morality for the most powerful country in the world, then we’re all in a lot of trouble.”
For context, Trump was convicted in May 2024 on 34 felony counts for falsifying business records (via The Independent). In the same year, a jury found him liable for sexually abusing E. Jean Carroll in 1996, but it was a civil case and therefore did not result in a criminal conviction. Trump has never been charged with a sex crime, including pedophilia.
The White House’s Reaction
Steven Cheung, Assistant to the President and White House Director of Communications, responded to Ruffalo’s comments.
„Poor thing Mark Ruffalo, star of She-Hulk, is one of the worst actors in the business. More impressively, he’s an even worse human being by spewing outright lies because deep down inside, he hates himself for knowingly subjecting the public to his god awful performance.”
He posted on Twitter alongside a Page Six article covering Ruffalo and other celebrities criticizing ICE: “Poor thing Mark Ruffalo, star of She-Hulk, is one of the worst actors in the business.
“More impressively, he’s an even worse human being by spewing outright lies because deep down inside, he hates himself for knowingly subjecting the public to his god awful performance.”
Mark Ruffalo has not yet responded to the White House’s “criticism.”
