Rayman’s Comeback Leaked? One Slip That Set the Rumor Mill on Fire

One of Ubisoft’s upcoming projects may have surfaced due to an accidental reveal that points to Rayman’s return. In an interview, Michel Ancel mentions that the franchise’s first title is getting an HD re-release. The remark instantly fueled speculation among fans.

If you’ve been following the rumors surrounding Ubisoft’s upcoming projects, you’ll know that Rayman’s return has been a constant topic of conversation. It’s true that the French publisher is currently going through a major restructuring, leading to the cancellation of six games and delays for seven others, but development clearly hasn’t come to a halt, and all signs suggest that a new installment is in the works that would bring Rayman back to his fantasy universe. Beyond leaks and fan theories, the character’s creator has now confirmed that the franchise’s first game will see a re-release.

Michel Ancel, Rayman’s creator, spoke with Retro Gamer to celebrate the series’ 30th anniversary. During the interview, he referred to a new project despite Ubisoft not having made any official announcement: “I think Rayman is still a fun game and has a lot of content,” he said (via Rayman Merchandise on X). “The pace is a bit slow because you have a large character on screen. It also has very precise pixel art, so it’s not always easy, but it’s interesting that yesterday’s limitations make it still feel original today.”

“Even though it’s complex, I think there’s some kind of remake planned. I don’t remember exactly when it will be released, but it will be in HD, and I think Ubisoft will add a few extra checkpoints and things like that to make it less frustrating,” he continued. “That’s probably a good move, because that’s the only aspect that could be an issue for less skilled players. But yes, I still think it’s a very good game.”

Michel Ancel previously spoke about the Prince of Persia remake

It’s worth noting that Michel Ancel is not part of Ubisoft’s top management and does not have full insight into everything happening internally at the company. Earlier in January, he mentioned the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake as if development was still ongoing, only for Ubisoft to officially announce its cancellation days later. In other words, Ancel is not informed in advance about the company’s production decisions, so Rayman’s return cannot be treated as confirmed until an official statement is made. Even so, the fact that the character’s creator is aware of a potential reboot is already enough to excite many fans.
