MOVIE NEWS – Since February 19, the new Hungarian thriller Feels Like Home (16) has been screening in cinemas and has already attracted 31,000 viewers. Thanks to a string of sold-out shows, the film – produced without direct state funding – has climbed to the top of the nationwide box office chart, continuing the remarkable run Hungarian films have enjoyed on the big screen this year. After Silent Friend, Hungarian Wedding, and I Fell for You, audiences can now buy tickets to yet another domestic crowd favorite.
Director Gábor Holtai said: “It’s an incredible feeling to see, and to feel, that so many people love our film. On behalf of my fellow creators and the cast, I can’t be grateful enough for this feedback. I’m genuinely proud of everyone and think fondly of the crew, because we had to work at an extremely fast pace. That demanded even greater concentration than usual to shoot every scene on time. The relentless tempo forged us into a real team, and the most beautiful reward for that work is this viewer number. I hope this is only the beginning, and that in the coming weeks many more people will be curious about the gut-punch story of the Árpád family.”
The protagonist of Feels Like Home (16), Rita (Rozi Lovas), wakes up one day in an unfamiliar apartment. The Árpád family tells her that she is actually Szilvi, their long-missing daughter. Rita is convinced there has been a mistake, but if she wants to stay alive, she has no choice but to play the role of Szilvi, while increasingly disturbing secrets about the family’s past begin to surface. The film blends thriller elements with intense character drama, and also stars Áron Molnár, Dorka Gryllus, Kornél Simon, Tibor Szervét, István Znamenák, Bettina Józsa, Kati Zsurzs, and Bálint Kovács.
Holtai’s first feature film was made without direct state support, through independent collaboration and financing, in a joint production by FP Films and CineSuper, with producers Péter Fülöp, Zoltán Mártonffy, and Ádám Farkas. The twist-filled thriller was written by Attila Veres (Átjáróház, Cella, Hunyadi). Its cinematographer is Dániel Szőke (Renitens, Napozz Holddal – A Kispálfilm, Utolsó Esély), production designer Eszter Takács (Fehér éjszakák, Mondd, ki vagyok én?), costume designer Adrienna Nagy (Sünvadászat, Kilakoltatás), and makeup department head Barbara Kund (Mesterjátszma, Hat hét, Nyugati nyaralás). The film was edited by Éva Vica Kovács (Fagyott május, Második kör), sound was handled by Kryštof Blabla, and the score was composed by Gábor Holtai (Második kör).
Feels Like Home (16) continues to play nationwide in more than 70 cinemas.
