Starfield is finally getting a new expansion and will also launch on PlayStation 5 in April 2026, but Bethesda is making it clear that none of this marks the end of the road. According to the studio, the space RPG still has plenty of room to grow, with more stories, locations, and lore elements they want to explore.
Yesterday brought the announcement many players had been waiting for, while others had already seen it coming: Starfield is getting a brand-new expansion. At the same time, Bethesda confirmed that the sci-fi RPG will arrive on PS5 next April, giving the game another major milestone in its life cycle, but apparently not its final one.
These are not minor additions, either. The free Free Lanes update will introduce meaningful structural changes, including interplanetary travel within star systems, richer exploration, and new customization options. On top of that, the paid Terran Armada DLC will expand the game’s narrative side. Taken together, the update and expansion make it clear that Bethesda is not merely keeping the game on life support – it is trying to strengthen its core systems and keep it relevant over the long term.
More importantly, the studio says this is still far from the final chapter. Lead creative producer Tim Lamb explained that the team continues to see Starfield as a long-term project, stressing that there are still stories, locations, and lore elements they want to develop. Art director Istvan Pely echoed that view, saying the studio has discussed so many ideas for future DLC that the list has become almost absurd in scale.
That is especially notable because much of Bethesda is already focused on its next major project, The Elder Scrolls VI. Todd Howard previously said that most of the team is now working on that long-awaited title, which naturally led many players to wonder how much post-launch support Starfield would continue to receive. For now, though, Bethesda’s message is fairly blunt: the game is not being wrapped up yet. The studio still has not revealed whether future content will come in the form of large-scale expansions or smaller additions, but one thing is clear – Starfield has not said its final word.
