Nintendo Switch 2 exclusives will now be cheaper in digital form in America too

A surprise announcement from Nintendo. Starting in May 2026, exclusive Nintendo Switch 2 games will see a change in their pricing policy. According to an official statement from the Japanese company, the MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) will be modified so that digital versions will be cheaper than physical ones. This is nothing new in Spain, where players have seen the price distinction between the two formats since the console’s launch — but the measure will now be extended to America.

“Nintendo games offer the same experiences whether in a box or in digital format, and this change simply reflects the different costs associated with the production and distribution of each format, and offers players more options on how they can purchase and play Nintendo games,” the company states in its official release. As mentioned above, the modification will apply only to Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive titles. Third-party developers could therefore present their usual prices for multiplat video games.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book will be the first game in which the MSRP change takes effect. The title will be available in physical stores for $69.99 and through the Nintendo eShop for $59.99. In short, we’re talking about a $10 difference that American players will see recurrently as Nintendo continues to release more exclusive titles for its hybrid console. This is an enormously important step for the creators of Super Mario, as the company sparked a wave of debate and criticism following the presentation of the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2025 for setting the most expensive game prices in the entire industry.

Nintendo Reportedly Reduced Nintendo Switch 2 Production in the United States

It seems Nintendo is making several decisions related to the management of its business in North America. In addition to what is covered in this article, a Bloomberg report has also come to light indicating that the company is reducing Nintendo Switch 2 production in the United States. Specifically, the cut amounts to more than 30% of current manufacturing, dropping from 6 million units to 4 million. The figure has not gone unnoticed among users, as it is a significant change for a console that is not even a year old.
