Even though the remake in question has not officially been announced yet, rumors are already swirling about hardware tied to it…
A few days ago, the well-known leaker Nate the Hate revealed that Nintendo is working on a Switch 2 remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Interestingly, another insider, Shpeshal_Nick, had already reported the same thing back in late 2024, claiming that the project had a fairly large budget behind it. After Nate backed up that information, Shpeshal_Nick added that Nintendo is also preparing a new limited-edition Switch 2 themed around Zelda, although he is not sure whether the game itself will be bundled with the console. It has been quite a while since Nintendo last released a Zelda-themed system. In September 2024, the company launched a limited-edition Switch Lite to mark the release of Echoes of Wisdom – the series’ first non-CD-i game in which Princess Zelda is playable. Before that, Nintendo also released a Zelda-themed Switch OLED alongside Tears of the Kingdom.
As a follow up to the below, from what I’ve been told we’re getting a Zelda themed Limited Edition Switch 2 console. Not sure if the game will be bundled or not pic.twitter.com/3KuVNTYCPE

The long-awaited remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time sounds like the perfect chance to continue that tradition, especially if Nintendo is really putting serious effort behind it, as the rumored large budget suggests. The game deserves nothing less, considering it still stands as Metacritic’s highest-rated title with an almost untouchable average score of 99. There are many reasons for that reputation, but perhaps the biggest one was Nintendo’s solution to handling 3D action at the time. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time introduced Z-targeting, a lock-on system that let players focus on enemies and control combat in three dimensions without the frustration that defined so many other 3D games of that era. It was so effective that virtually every 3D action game since has borrowed some version of the idea.
Beyond that, its time-travel structure was brilliant, its dungeon design was exceptional, and its interconnected world – complete with NPC routines, shifting times of day, and countless secrets – pushed players to explore and ended up inspiring many later action-adventure games. It will be interesting to see how Nintendo chooses to adapt this all-time classic to modern standards…
