Kinetic Games is joining forces with Remedy Entertainment’s IP, though only for a limited time – so yes, this collaboration will eventually come to an end as well…
Kinetic Games has announced the limited-time event Phasmophobia by Alan Wake, which brings the world of Alan Wake II into the cooperative psychological horror game. The event begins on May 12. This crossover introduces a new presence that slips into familiar locations, moves through the shadows, and adds twists to investigations unlike anything ghost hunters have faced before.
“There are many Phasmophobia fans at Remedy, so it was an exciting opportunity to bring these two horror worlds together in this dreamlike, or rather nightmarish collaboration. It was a joy to write. Our two twisted worlds complement each other perfectly”, said Sam Lake, creative director at Remedy Entertainment, in the press release. “Working with Remedy has been an incredible experience, and the overlap between these two worlds opened up unsettling possibilities that we cannot wait for players to explore. It is a natural crossover, and our art team worked hard to capture the atmosphere of Alan Wake II and bring the essence of some of that game’s iconic locations into Phasmophobia. We cannot wait for fans of both games to see what the event has in store for them on May 12”, added Daniel Knight, CEO of Kinetic Games.
Phasmophobia is currently only available in Early Access on PlayStation 5, with PlayStation VR2 support, Xbox Series, and PC. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is also in development. Sales have already been quite strong, with more than 5 million copies sold on consoles alone and at least 28 million copies sold overall. The Nintendo Switch 2 port will clearly give that another push, since Kinetic Games’ title has so far skipped Nintendo’s machine – so do not be surprised if, after that port launches, we end up reporting that Phasmophobia has already crossed the 30 million mark…
PlayStation VR2 support is also a very sensible move here, because psychological horror is especially effective in VR.
