Masters of the Universe Trailer Calls He-Man Home With a Glorious Blast of ‘80s Nostalgia

MOVIE NEWS – The long-awaited big-screen return of Masters of the Universe is now close enough to feel real, and all signs so far point to a strikingly faithful adaptation of the iconic 1980s franchise. Exciting previews for the reboot keep surfacing online, and the latest trailer puts the spotlight squarely on He-Man’s determination to find the Power Sword and reclaim what is rightfully his.

A new international trailer for Masters of the Universe has been released online by Sony Pictures Releasing UK. Right at the start, it offers fresh footage showing He-Man, played by Nicholas Galitzine, typing away at his office job while his co-workers call out his obsession with tracking down the legendary sword. The rest of the trailer leans heavily into the action-packed material seen in the previous one, including plenty of Skeletor, played by Jared Leto. The footage is vibrant and leaps off the screen, and from what has been shown so far, director Travis Knight seems to have locked onto exactly what made the franchise so popular and enduring in the first place, without pushing it so far that it collapses into parody.

Masters of the Universe will bring together He-Man and many of the classic characters from the original cartoon. Alongside Galitzine as Prince Adam and He-Man, the film features Camila Mendes as Teela and Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms. Battle Cat is also there, and appears to be an impressively accurate live-action version. On the villain side, Jared Leto is almost unrecognizable as Skeletor, while Alison Brie steps into the role of Evil-Lyn. Beyond the impressive casting, the film has also pulled off something just as important for fans of the property: it has given many of these characters costumes that look remarkably faithful. Expect accurate designs for Sorceress, played by Morena Baccarin, as well as Mekaneck, Ram Man, Spikor, and Goat Man.

Travis Knight Is Not Running From the Franchise’s Inherent Silliness – He Is Folding It Into the Story

The calling card of Masters of the Universe, ever since the first teaser, has been its willingness to embrace the colorful, chaotic, slightly insane spirit of the original property. That is no accident, because Travis Knight has made it clear that his goal is to blend the campier source material with a script that twists certain elements just enough to make them work for a modern audience. In an earlier interview, the filmmaker openly said that the movie would acknowledge the “inherent silliness” of the franchise in a way that still feels coherent within a feature-length story.

“There’s an inherent silliness to it, which we are acknowledging and embracing. I think it’s a virtue, actually. And it’s woven into the script to help some of these things make sense to a modern audience. Like, why would that character have that stupid name? Well, over the course of the movie we show you why.”

Knight is also no stranger to bringing a beloved 1980s property back to the big screen. He directed Bumblebee in 2018, a Transformers spin-off that not only translated the original cartoon design into live action, but also grounded the entire film in a genuinely heartfelt story. If Knight can pull off something similar with Masters of the Universe, then it becomes difficult to imagine audiences outright rejecting what he is bringing to the table. Of course, the final verdict will only come once the movie arrives in theaters later this summer, on June 5, 2026.
