The studio has released the system requirements, and it certainly looks like 8 GB of RAM won’t be enough for smooth gameplay.
Let’s take a look at the requirements for Subnautica 2.

Unknown Worlds added that further optimizations will be made during development and that they will update the settings accordingly to ensure Subnautica 2 continues to provide the best possible experience. The studio may optimize the game so that it runs on machines with 8 GB of RAM. However, this isn’t guaranteed, so it’s possible that, over time, we’ll need to spend money to buy more RAM. Unfortunately, this is probably the worst time to upgrade a PC because the memory shortage continues to affect the entire tech industry, including gaming.
In addition to revealing the game’s system requirements, Unknown Worlds clarified that it will publish Subnautica 2 in partnership with Krafton. After Unknown Worlds‘ co-founders won their legal battle against their parent company and Krafton‘s name disappeared from the game’s store pages as the publisher, speculation ran rampant that Unknown Worlds would become independent again or that Krafton would no longer publish Subnautica 2 on PC in early access on May 14.
However, this does not mean that Unknown Worlds will not leave Krafton’s umbrella in the future. The relationship between the two companies has certainly changed forever following the legal battle.
