Summer Game Fest: Will Fighting Game Fans Be Happy Too?

There will be plenty of announcements during the “non-E3” period in June, some of which will likely make fighting game fans happy.

A Reddit post claims that Injustice 3, a long-rumored game that has not yet been officially announced by NetherRealm, will be confirmed during Summer Game Fest. This isn’t a huge surprise since Warner’s studio, which specializes in fighting games, essentially bounces between two IPs. Either NetherRealm is working on Mortal Kombat or creating fighting games featuring DC Universe characters under the Injustice IP.

The post speculated that the release window could be January 2027, which makes the target platforms easy to guess: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PC, and perhaps Nintendo Switch 2, since neither PlayStation 6 nor Xbox Project Helix will be available by then. According to the post, this will be the final installment in the franchise. They also plan to add a character from the Doom Patrol series as DLC later on. Since the first two Injustice games were expanded in a similar way after release, this is to be expected.

The post then touched on another franchise. Regarding Street Fighter 6, the post mentioned that Tifa from Final Fantasy will be featured in DLC for Capcom’s fighting game. This DLC is set to be released in late 2026. There will be some kind of collaboration with the Final Fantasy IP, so Capcom may partner with Square Enix in the future. This sounds far-fetched, but you never know what collaborations might come to fruition.

None of this is official yet. Since the person in question isn’t known, it might all end up being a rumor. We’ll just have to wait and see. As for Injustice 3, that at least seems plausible, but Tifa’s appearance is pretty questionable.
