iPhone 18 Pro Max: Is Apple Focusing on Another Device?

TECH NEWS – The Cupertino tech giant is now concentrating on something other than its new flagship smartphone due this fall.

Various parts of Apple’s extensive supply chain are gradually aligning around the final design and specifications of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone 18 Pro, and the emerging consensus reduces the likelihood of a drastic redesign. Leaker Ice Universe has now claimed that the iPhone 18 Pro Max will be 8.75 mm thick, matching its predecessor. This suggests that no major change should be expected for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro duo, especially since Apple’s attention is clearly focused on its first foldable device, the iPhone Ultra.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max will reportedly use Samsung’s M16 OLED technology, a native 10-bit panel that replaces blue fluorescent OLED material with blue phosphorescent material, bringing a significant efficiency gain. Even so, another rumor claims that the iPhone 18 Pro Max and its Pro counterpart will not receive a dual-layer OLED display, in which two RGB OLED layers are stacked on top of each other to produce a substantially brighter screen. Apple could still implement a kind of quasi-dual OLED by adding an extra blue sub-pixel layer.

The iPhone 18 Pro duo will feature LTPO+ OLED displays, dramatically improving efficiency by dynamically controlling the screen’s refresh rate: it can rise to 120 Hz for gaming or smooth scrolling, then drop as low as 1 Hz when viewing static images. In addition, rumors have circulated over the past few weeks about an allegedly smaller Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models, achieved by placing some Face ID module components beneath the display layer.

Digital Chat Station continues to claim that the iPhone 18 Pro duo will show minimal changes compared with the iPhone 17 Pro/iPhone 17 Pro Max pair, with updates limited to the A20 Pro chip, a variable-aperture camera setup, and a larger battery. These conflicting rumors appear to be the result of A/B testing that Apple is still conducting before making a final decision on whether to place certain Face ID components under the display. In addition, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, the Pro model, and the iPhone Ultra will all use Apple’s brand-new C2 modem, which supports 5G mmWave networks as well as satellite connectivity.

We also recently heard that the iPhone 18 Pro Max and Pro model will be available in four different colors: dark gray, dark cherry, light blue, and silver. Photos of the chassis have now appeared as well, showing exactly how these color variants will look.
