Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic can be pleased, because the remake of a game first released 25 years ago has achieved strong results in one week.
The game from Alkimia Interactive, the studio created specifically to develop the remake, has officially reached 500,000 copies sold in its first week on digital storefronts, the studio announced. This is a significant milestone not only because of the number itself, but also because it was achieved during one of the busiest months in the game industry, in the middle of Summer Game Fest. We have been waiting for this remake for a long time. The original Gothic had a major impact when it launched in 2001, which gives it an advantage over an RPG that was still a completely new franchise back then.
But that does not make it any less significant that it has found its audience now – at a time when the industry’s biggest games have not even launched yet. There are undoubtedly many players focusing instead on games such as God of War Laufey, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, and Resident Evil: Veronica, the three most popular and most discussed games from the past week’s flood of news, which we have already covered as well.
“The Gothic 1 Remake launched just one week ago and has already surpassed 500,000 copies sold across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC. Player activity has also been impressive: on June 7, the game reached nearly 78,000 concurrent players on Steam. More than 15,000 user reviews on the platform further underline the game’s strong reception, resulting in an 85% ‘Very Positive’ rating. Alkimia Interactive and THQ Nordic are delighted by this early success and extend heartfelt thanks to every player who has entered the Colony so far – and especially to the long-time dedicated fans who have supported the Gothic series over the past 25 years. This milestone would not have been possible without such a passionate community. This is only the beginning. Alkimia Interactive will continue to support and improve Gothic 1 Remake in the weeks and months ahead” – reads the statement published on Steam.
Well, now we are waiting for the 1 million announcement.
