MOVIE NEWS – Hollywood and Bond fans have spent years guessing who will become the next James Bond, but the race has now taken a striking new turn. The latest prediction data suggests that a less overused name has surged far ahead of the competition, just as more details begin to form around Denis Villeneuve’s upcoming 007 reboot.
It has now been almost five years since Daniel Craig last appeared as James Bond in No Time to Die, and Amazon has since begun building the next era of the 007 franchise in earnest. The identity of the new lead, however, remains unknown. Fans have spent years throwing around names such as Henry Cavill, Tom Hardy, and Idris Elba, but everything suggests that the studio may not choose from the most obvious dream castings that have been circulating for ages.
There are already several firm creative pieces in place for the next James Bond film. Denis Villeneuve, director of Dune and Blade Runner 2049, is set to direct, while Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight is writing the script. Plot details remain under wraps, but the idea of treating the next film as a full restart for the character is looking increasingly likely, possibly even moving toward an origin-story approach. That idea also lines up with the video game side of the franchise, where 007 First Light focuses on a younger Bond in his early years.
As speculation continues, prediction markets and betting-style forecasts have now pushed a new favorite to the front. According to Kalshi data, the odds for Fantastic Beasts and Masters of the Air actor Callum Turner have climbed as high as 58%, putting him far ahead of the competition. Aaron Taylor-Johnson follows in second place at 24%, while Jacob Elordi sits in third at 21%. Turner’s name has gained momentum recently because of several rumors claiming that he has already been chosen, with some sources describing the news as “the worst-kept secret going.”
Turner has many of the qualities that could fit a new Bond. He is not an overexposed star, but he has already demonstrated charisma, dramatic presence, and elegance across several well-received projects, all of which still matter for this role. He is also often noted for his resemblance to Hoagy Carmichael, the musician, actor, author, and lawyer who helped inspire Ian Fleming’s original visual idea of Bond. That classic, slightly old-fashioned quality could work especially well in a reboot that may return the character to a harder, less polished foundation.
Still, not everything is in his favor. Turner is now 36, which puts him close to the age Daniel Craig was when he first played Bond in Casino Royale. That is not automatically a deal-breaker, but if Villeneuve and Knight really are building a younger, origin-style 007, his age could become an issue. The actor also has several major projects ahead of him, including Apple TV’s sci-fi series Neuromancer, which could make it harder for him to commit to James Bond for the foreseeable future.
For now, the official announcement still has not arrived. Turner has been careful when addressing the rumors in public, recently saying: “It’s such a weird thing of something happening and nothing happening at all. I genuinely know nothing.” The Bond machine, however, is clearly in motion, Villeneuve’s involvement alone has raised expectations dramatically, and if the casting really follows the current forecasts, the next era of 007 may begin not with one of the most recycled fan-favorite names, but with a far less predictable choice.
